Following their historic 4-2 win against Orlando Pirates in the Telkom Knockout quarters finals at Orlando Stadium last Saturday, Polokwane City Football Club is confident that they can go all the way to the finals.
City will face the inform and unpredictable Bloemfontein Celtic Football Club in the semi-final match of the tournament scheduled for old Peter Mokaba Stadium on 19 November.
Since their promotion to the elite league in 2012 City has never advanced to the quarterfinals and semi-finals of the tournament.
Club Spokesperson, Vusi Ntimane said they were pleased to have reached this milestone in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).
He added that they wanted to end a bad run against Celtic, one of their toughest opponents in the league. “This is a huge achievement for us and we promise to do well in the tournament. We are aware of the bad record we have against Celtic but history remains in the history books. We struggled to win matches against them in past seasons. This is a new season altogether and we can assure our fans that we will do well in the match and go to the final of the tournament,” Ntimane said.
The Telkom Knockout comprises the 16 teams in the PSL. The competition, first established in 1982 and known then as the Datsun Challenge has had many name changes in its nearly four decades of existence until Telkom became the new sponsors in 2006. The winner receives R4 million.
