Baroka Football Club hopes to cause a major upset in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) when they host the League Champions, Bidvest Wits at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday.
Bakgakga has never beaten Bidvest Wits since their debut in the elite league two seasons ago.
Last season the students did a double over Baroka defeating them in all home and away matches of the League.
Baroka are currently on top of the League with 15 points after seven matches while Wits are languishing in the 15th position with five points after the same number of matches.
Club Spokesperson, Jimmy Ngobeni said they have all the ammunition to defeat the league champions. “We are celebrating the club’s 10th anniversary and as part of the festivities we promised our fans one of the trophies of the PSL this season. We believe we are on the right track to win one. It might be other titles but the focus is on the league title. We have never won a match against Wits but we have been waiting for them. We can assure our fans and supporters that we will win the match and still stay on top of the league,” Ngobeni said.
He also mentioned that all players will be available for selection except for Goodman Mosele who sustained a knee injury during their match against Orlando Pirates at Peter Mokaba Stadium in August.
Seventeen-year-old Mosele who is a Grade 12 learner at Kopano High School in Lebowakgomo was promoted from Baroka’s reserve team to senior club in July. “We thought he would have recovered by now but he is still nursing the injury. All the players are available and we are confident the technical team will line-up a formidable team against Wits,” Ngobeni added.
