The Executive Council (Exco) decided that the Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) should utilise funds from their current budget to financially support Polokwane City and Baroka Football Clubs for the 2017/18 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season.
The decision was made during an Exco meeting at the Office of the Premier last Wednesday when it met to discuss a wide range of issues pertinent to service delivery. Provincial Government Spokesperson, Phuti Seloba disclosed during the Post Exco media briefing the following day that, in line with established practise from other provinces regarding support of professional football teams playing their trade in the Premier Soccer League (PSL), the council has approved that LTA should, with the support of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, negotiate and enter into a formal agreement with Baroka and Polokwane City Football Clubs. He further said the entity will roll out support to the two teams utilising funds from their current budget and in the event of a shortfall, Provincial Treasury will consider making additional funds available.
