Free State Stars rubbed salt into Polokwane City Football Club’s wounds when they beat them 3-2 at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday evening, thus handing them their third defeat of the 2017/18 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season.
Since their major feat against Mamelodi Sundows in August, City has been struggling to collect maximum points against their opponents.
Their first defeat of the season was against Bloemfontein Celtic who trashed them 2-1 last week followed by Ajax Cape Town who beat them 2-0 in Cape Town last Friday.
Their dismal run puts them on the 13th position of the league with four points after five matches.
In a post-match interview at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday evening, Polokwane City Head Coach, Bernard Molekwa said they are disappointed by the bad run in the league but promised better results in the upcoming matches.
“We lost three matches within a space of seven days and that is bad. We are playing well and creating chances but we are not converting them. We still have more matches to play in the league and we can promise our fans that we will do well in those matches,” Molekwa said.
They will be hoping to redeem themselves against Cape Town City Football Club when the two meet at Cape Town Stadium tomorrow (Friday).
“It is a must win match. We have dropped crucial points along the way and we can’t afford to lose other points. We don’t have a bad record against them. They beat us in the first round last season and we beat them in the second round. We are not perturbed, we are confident that we will come back home with three points,” Vusi Ntimane, Club Spokesperson said.
