A group of nearly 20 local athletes, friends and members of local athletic clubs, is geared to participate in the annual Sanlam Cape Town Marathon on Sunday.
Group Coach Tsholofelo Tsiane said advertisements of the marathon initiated the idea. She said the team members not only practised on the open road but also spent some time in the gym to gain muscle strength. Some ran in the morning while others chose to practise in the afternoon. Comrades Marathon winner, Ludwick Mamabolo was also part of the final practice session on Wednesday to provide some helpful advice to the athletes,” Tsiane said.
Some of the athletes will leave for Cape Town today (Thursday) and the rest will depart tomorrow (Friday) to be on time for the starter’s gun to the prestigious 42,2 km race.
The event is open to a range of running enthusiasts, from elite athletes to social runners. The spectacular route includes the famous natural beauty of Cape Town’s mountains and sea as well as many of the city’s great attractions. The marathon is a unique way of experiencing the gorgeous highlights and the vibrant spirit of one of Africa’s most visited and celebrated cities. It is an ideal race both for those aiming to achieve fast times as well as novices hoping to complete their inaugural marathon.
