Motor sport enthusiasts and families looking for a fun day out are invited to join Polokwane Oval Raceway, Limpopo 4×4 Club, Capricorn Racing Club and Bosveld Auto Club on Saturday at the Polokwane Show Grounds for the first annual Polokwane Wheels Show.
One of the organisers of the event, Johnny Durant, says the aim of the show is to get all motor sport clubs in the city together to support each other and to introduce the public to the sport. “We also want to get more young people involved and that is why children under 14 do not have to pay an entrance fee,” he says.
The gates open at 10:00 and visitors can look forward to exhibitions of racing cars and motorbikes, classic cars and the newest offerings from all major motoring dealerships in the city. “There will be a wide variety on show, even tractors,” says Durant.
There will also be two interesting demonstrations, a 4×4 traction show and a mobile dynamo where visitors can tests their vehicles’ power. With enough food stalls to satisfy any hunger and a cash bar, there will be more than enough to eat and drink throughout the day.
One of the highlights of the show, a concert with Piet Pompies and Die Ventertjies, is expected to start at 16:00. There will be enough seating on the pavilion and guests are invited to make the most of the dance floor in front of the stage.
Piet Pompies, his real name Pieter Rischmüller, used to be a member of the popular band DJ Ossewa, but has since pursued a solo career, while Die Ventertjies comprises the singing sisters from Brakpan, Lindie-Lee and Nicola.
Tickets cost R150 per person older than 14. For more information contact Durant on 082 376 8188.
