Eighty-nine athletes entered for the
21,1 km, 172 for the 10 km and 137 for the 5 km fun run.
One of the organisers, Robin Gardner said the highlight of the event was grandmaster Johan Stears (76) and five other women in their 50s who finished the 21,1 km.
The event is hosted by the Rotary Club of Haenertsburg and the scenic route offered a 687 m climb from starting point to finish line with some challenging village streets, dust roads, firebreaks and footpaths to be conquered. Participants in the fun run were also welcome to bring their dogs. Funds raised will go towards approved Rotary projects especially Preserve Planet Earth and other community projects.
Polokwane Athletic Club member Koketjo Gumbo was first to cross the finish line in the 21,1 km open category for men, while Donna Greyling claimed victory in the women’s category.
In the 10 km race Rufus Makgoba and Carmen Schoeman were first in the open male and female categories respectively.
Gardner indicated that no times were taken as the event is classified as a charity run.
