Polokwane City Football Club goalkeeper, George Chigova was a member of the Zimbabwean team that triumphed in the 2017 Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) Cup tournament at Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Sunday.
The Warriors took their fifth title in the 17th edition of the international event that was contested by 14 teams from the region when they beat Zambia 3-1.
Chigova, 26, joined Polokwane City Football Club from SuperSport United Football Club in 2015 and was also part of the Zimbabwean team that finished fourth position at the 2014 African Nations Championship (Chan) tournament.
He conceded only five goals in the group matches of the Cosafa tournament and he made incredible saves against Zambia.
Interim Coach at Polokwane City Football Club Bernard Molekwa said they were proud of their player’s achievements and stressed that his experience at the tournament will help the team in the upcoming Premier Soccer League (PSL) season.
“He is a good goalkeeper and he justified his national team selection. He was a key member of the team and he played a pivotal role in ensuring that we finish the league in the top 8 bracket last season.
“I think he was selected by the Zimbabwean technical team because of the role he played in our team. He played all the league matches last season and his selection at the national shows the high standard of PSL and type of players we have in the League,” Molekwa said.
Zambia has won the title four times.
