Black Leopards Football Club continued their excellent form in the National First Division (NFD) when they beat Mbombela United 2-1 at Kanyamazane Stadium on Saturday to solidify their second position in the division.
In their last six matches they have won against Santos, Milano United, Royal Eagles, Real Kings and drew against log leaders Thanda Zulu Royals. They managed to amass 30 points in 18 matches, something that many teams dream of doing. With only 12 matches remaining before the season comes to an end, Club Spokesperson Barry Ramunenyiwa is confident that they will be automatically promoted to the Premier Soccer League (PSL).
Leopards were relegated from the elite league in 2013 and took part in 2015 NFD promotional play-off but lost to Jomo Cosmos.
“We are confident that we can retain our PSL status. That has been our primary goal since the beginning of the season but we want to take one game at a time. We don’t want to be over confident and get carried away by our success. All the teams in the division want to get promoted to the PSL and we just have to continue working hard and leave everything in God’s hands,” Ramunenyiwa said.
He attributed the teams’ recent form and success in the division to hard put in by the technical team and the players. “They work hard week in and out and this is the result of their hard work,” Ramunenyiwa said.
He also called all their supporters to come in droves to their match against seventh placed Witbank Spurs scheduled to take place at Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday. “It is another important match for us and we want to collect maximum points. We need their support and prayers and we are looking forward to seeing them at the match.”
