The Limpopo Impala Cricket 2016/17 season started this weekend with the first T20 matches between Eagles Cricket Club and Aces Cricket Club at the Polokwane cricket fields on Sunday. Eagles A-team won their match against Aces B-team with seven wickets after scoring 68/3 compared to Aces’ 66/10.
Aces A-team was first to defend their wicket against Stars Cricket Club scoring 163/3 while Stars managed to reach only 162/9 wickets in 20 overs.
Prior to the game provincial and club coaches also attended the annual Limpopo Impala Cricket Coaches Conference at Bolivia Lodge last Thursday.
Impala Cricket Club and Facilities Coordinator Sedibu Mohlaba said: “The theme for the conference was Raising Talent and presented by Impala Cricket Coaches Manager Dumile Skade. The event scheduled for the whole day saw coaches from across the province engaging in various activities. “The reason behind the theme was that the world of sport and high performance is becoming more and more competitive and the age of champions and world class performers in general is becoming younger and younger,” Sedibu said. He added that today’s coaches of talented youngsters are in a very challenging position and they know they need to do something if they want their player to reach his or her full potential.
The season starts with the T20 competition between teams from the Waterberg, Central and Letaba regions. The semi-finals are scheduled for 30 October.
