NEW soccer TALENT dawns

Having sauntered onto the pitch with swagger, Haggai Independent Private School from Thohoyandou went on to ride a roller coaster of passion and fury to conquer the Copa Coca-Cola championship in Polokwane on Saturday.

LIMPOPO -Under a roasting sun, the school from Vhembe won the provincial finals tournament hosted by Coca-Cola, in conjunction with the South African Schools Football Association (SASFA), held at the Hoërskool Noorderland sport grounds.

They had the opportunity to play in the championship after winning the tournament through a points system that saw them standing head and shoulders above the competition.

Copa Coca-Cola is a global football development initiative that gives millions of young football fans the opportunity to come together and celebrate their passion for the sport.

As part and parcel of this initiative, the Which Part Will You Play search is on once again, with Coca-Cola looking for exceptional young players to join the Which Part Will You Play all-star team.

Players embodying and representing the dynamic and unique roles needed to make up a successful team will be selected for the side and act as personifications of the values Copa Coca-Cola aims to instill in its young participants.

It was during this tournament that Moremi Kgomokaboya from Capricorn High School was selected to join the Which Part Will You Play all-stars team after being identified as The Mastermind. Kgomokaboya was chosen after being identified as a player who plays football like a grandmaster plays chess.

He is always five steps ahead and uses his brain as an extra muscle to help win the game.

Off the field he is also five steps ahead when it comes to recognising the value of school and his friendships.

Addressing the media during a post-match interview, Kgomokaboya said: “We played very well during the tournament, especially in this heat. I’m happy to have been selected as the Mastermind and I aim to make my teammates proud at the National Finals later this month. I will fly my school’s flag high”.

In addition to the Which Part Will You Play all-stars, Copa Coca-Cola will pick one individual in each province who has played an integral part in the development of young soccer players.

Each of these individuals will be recognised with the title of The Mentor and rewarded by Coca-Cola for the contribution they make in the development of South Africa’s youth.

Nkosana Njiba was named The Mentor in Limpopo.

Njiba was selected in recognition of having a tenacious spirit and committed nature to the school boys in his area.

Njiba, during days where he was unable to find sporting facilities for the players to train, had to walk up to 2,2 km to locate the nearest, suitable sporting fields where they could train and improve on their skills.

“I feel this is a huge personal achievement. I never in my life thought I would ever be recognised for something I did daily,” said Njiba.
