Polokwane City Football Club has strengthened their defence line by acquiring the services of former Platinum Stars defender Thabiso Semenya last Thursday.
Semenya, who had an illustrious career at Stars having won the MTN 8 Cup and Telkom Knockout Cup in 2013 with the team, joins City on a free transfer after his contract with Stars ran out at the end of last season.
He joined Stars in the 2011/12 season coming from Carara Kicks in the National First Division.
The defender made his debut for Platinum Stars in October 2011 in a 2-1 win against Kaizer Chiefs.
Club Spokesperson, Tumelo Makgoara confirmed the signing of the Moletjie born defender who had impressed the technical team while on trial with the club.
“He recently signed with us. He trained with the team for almost a month and played friendly matches but I can’t comment on the nature of the deal,” Makgoara said.
City has already signed Rodney Ramagalela and Walter Maponyane in June and is also assessing Belgium-born striker Christophe Martin-Suarez, formerly attached to Belgian second division club KSV Roeselare, as well as former Jomo Cosmos striker, Muhammad Sulumba.
Makgoara said they have lined up friendly matches against Witbank Spurs, Highlands Park and Orlando Pirates ahead of their first match of the 2016/17 Premier Soccer League against Cape Town City on 23 August in Cape Town.
