This year double the number of entrants than during the previous race braved the challenging Iron Crown Trail Run when on Saturday 453 runners awaited the starter’s gun.
Phuti Mohale from Pietersburg Road Runners and Elsabe Cronjé from Polokwane Athletic Club were the first to finish in the 21 km men’s and women’s category with respective times of 1:42.46 and 2:17.28.
Rotary Club Haenertsburg Secretary Robin Gardner said the event was a huge success and they were happy with the amount of entries received.
“It was the sixth annual Iron Crown and the lovely weather created perfect conditions for athletes in the 21 km, 10 km and 5 km races,” she said.
Gardner added that the festive atmosphere at the start/stop were due to the positive attitude of supporters, family and friends who encouraged athletes to the end.
She thanked athletes and sponsors for their contribution and reminded them that all funds will go to Rotary’s Preserve Planet Earth environmental protection projects and various other community projects.
