Magesi Football Club coach Jacky Ledwaba is convinced of his team’s ability to pull off a major upset against Kaizer Chiefs when the two meet at the inaugural Film, Arts, Music and Entertainment (Fame) Charity Cup scheduled for 6 August at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Ledwaba, who was named Coach of the Tournament at the recent ABC Motsepe Play-offs in Bloemfontein said they will use the game against Chiefs to test their strength ahead of the 2016/17 National First Division (NFD) which commences in August. “Winning is in our blood and we have to win the match. We are aware that Chiefs is a big team but I think we are ready for them. We need such matches because they are the ones that will tell us if we are ready to compete in the NFD,” Ledwaba said.
The former Premier Soccer League (PSL) to goal scorer said preparations are at an advanced stage for the upcoming season. “We are currently busy scouting players in order to strengthen the team for next season. We have conducted trials in different parts of the province searching for new and raw talent. We want to be competitive next season and we can only do that if we have the right players,” Ledwaba said.
Matodzi Makananisa, Fame Awards Chairperson said they are excited to host a team like Kaizer Chiefs. He called on football supporters to support the event. “Tickets are flying like hotcakes and we are urging all soccer loving people to go to their nearest Computicket and buy the tickets as early as they can to avoid disappointment,” Makananisa said.
Kaizer Chiefs is expected to arrive in the city on 4 August and conduct a meet and greet session which will see players interacting with their supporters. “The team has a huge following in the province and we want to give supporters an opportunity to interact with the players. The team is likely to visit Seshego and Mankweng and interact with supporters in those areas,” he said.
