Local petrol heads from Polokwane Oval made it clear during the first leg of the National Championships hosted in Bredasdorp recently that they mean business on the race track with several racers earning positions on the podium.
Skilled driving from Heath Bent saw him taking the win in the 1660 class. Bent deserved the win as he had to work long hours to build a new motor after a mechanical failure the weekend prior at a local club race. JJ Fourie also did well with a fourth overall.
In the Stockrod class the second and third overall positions went to Johan Thiart and Nico Grebe respectively.

Nico Vorster set the quickest lap time with his Hotrod at 15,57 seconds earning himself the first position.

In the Sprints class Kenny Gouws ended the race second overall. Gouws is described by Polokwane Oval Promoter Stephan Weideman as a driver with consistency. “Gouws always pitch at the track with a well prepared car and a setup that suits every track around the country,” Weideman said.
In the fast growing field of Hotrods, Polokwane Ovals’s Nico Vorster took the lead from the start. The fast and furious Hotrods, doing close to 160 km/h around the 489 m track, saw lap records tumbling, with Vorster doing the quickest lap in a time of 15,57 seconds.
“The 1 840 km was well worth the effort as great results were achieved by our members and Polokwane Oval was once again praised for the high quality of their race cars. We would like to congratulate the racers for their achievements and also for keeping the Limpopo flag flying high,” Weideman said.
The next oval action locally will be on 9 April when Polokwane Oval will be hosting their Club Championships.
