Just more than 60 athletes who competed in the Limpopo Track and Field Championships at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday qualified to represent the province in the Athletics South Africa (ASA) National Championships in Germiston on 30 March and 1 April.
According to Limpopo Athletics (Lima) Secretary Leon Bannau the Local Organising Committee of Saturday’s event considered cancelling the championships after heavy rain the previous night and early morning, but later decided to continue.
“We started late because of the weather conditions and had to cancel the discus because of the danger posed by the wet course. We completed the rest of the programme and are proud to announce that 63 athletes qualified for the national championships and will compete in 92 items,” Bannau informed.
He added that the provincial team will compete in the sub-youth, youth, junior and u.23 categories and athletes must ensure to have a permanent Lima licence number before the event.
Numbers can be obtained from the Lima office at the new Peter Mokaba Stadium at R80.
