After eliminating Premier Soccer League (PSL) outfit Chippa United from the last 32 matches of the Nedbank Cup at Buffalo City Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Sunday, Baroka Football Club is confident that they can win both the National First Division (NFD) title and the Nedbank Cup.
Baroka are currently on top of the NFD with 43 points after 21 matches and given their superb form in the division the Ga-Maphahlele based team could make history in South African Football.
“We definitely want to win the NFD title and get automatic promotion to the PSL. There is lot of work ahead. In the league we are left nine matches to complete the season. We need points out of those matches and as for the Nedbank Cup we still have to go to the last 16 matches and it still going to be tough. There teams that qualified are tough opponents and we are ready for any team. However, it must be indicated that it will be great to win the Nedbank Cup,” Baroka Technical Manager, Oupa Kgoadi said.
He also mentioned that they are happy with the commitment shown by their reserve team during the match against Chippa United. “We made nine changes from the first team because we rested regular players for the Amazulu match. They surprised and challenged us.
“They have shown that they want to play and we are pleased to have healthy competition in the team where players are fighting for that starting berth,” Kgoadi said.
