Members of the Karate & Self Defence Academy (KSDA) in Polokwane participated in an interclub competition in Louis Trichardt recently in preparation for other competitions later this year.
Karatekas are preparing for a competition next month against clubs from Gauteng as well as the International Shotokan Karate Federation (ISKF) National Championships in Durban in September.
KSDA karateka Klarissa Stelzer competed in the 8-year category and attained silver medals in kumite and kata. In the 11-year category Monique Botha won silver in kumite and gold for kata while Ruan Booyens won gold in both kumite and kata.
Junior Brits (Sempai), senior category, took home a silver medal for kumite and gold for kata. Danell Osborne, also senior, won gold in kumite and kata and silver in kunite.
Justin Booyens bagged silver medals in kumite and kata while Noko Mabutla won gold in kumite and silver in kata.
