Polokwane Executive Mayor Thembi Nkadimeng has extended her best wishes to all athletes from different clubs in Polokwane and surrounds who will be participating in this year’s Comrades Marathon on 31 May. The event is scheduled to start at the Durban City Hall with the setter’s gun going off at 05:30 and end twelve hours and 87 km later at the Oval Cricket Stadium in Pietermaritzburg.
“We wish them all the best. They are carrying our name and they have our support,” Nkadimeng told Polokwane Observer on Saturday while attending the Mayoral Road Race at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Ruphus Photo, a local athlete and member of Polokwane Road Runners, said he was ready to make the city proud. Photo, who finished the 2014 event in fifth position in a time of 5:35:30 said: “I am more than ready for this year‘s event. Last year I came fifth and I am hoping to stay in the top 10”.
