City kickboxers set to take on world’s best in the US

Local kickboxers, Kian Kleynhans (16) and Stefan Pretorius (14) will travel to the US for the International Sport Karate Association (ISKA) World Championships.

POLOKWANE – Local kickboxers, Kian Kleynhans (16) and Stefan Pretorius (14) will travel to the US for the International Sport Karate Association (ISKA) World Championships on June 27 and return on July 9.

Kian and Stefan will receive South African Springbok colours for their participation in the ISKA world championships.

Kian, a Tom Naudé Technical High School gr. 10 learner is currently a blue belt level three kickboxer.

He has been training in kickboxing for the past four years. Kian says he looks forward to the trip to America and the experience he will gain there. He trains twice a week at the Limpopo Sport Kickboxing Karate Academy.

“He deserves so much more than a blue belt. He is an excellent fighter,” said Nico Myburgh, Kian’s coach.

Stefan, a gr. 8 learner also at Tom Naudé Technical High School, is currently a black belt kickboxer. He has been training in kickboxing for the past 10 years and will rely on his experience to carry him through the championships.

Stefan trains twice a week, at the Limpopo Sport Kickboxing Karate Academy.

“I love the fitness and training that kickboxing has to offer,” he says.

The fighters seek sponsorship in order to compete in the championships and the two boys’ mothers, Hester Kleynhans and Helene Pretorius ask the community for any assistance. The last payment for the championships entries must be done before April 30.

Those willing to assist the boys can contact Hester Kleynhans at 076 105 8743 or Helene Pretorius at 084 411 7898.
