COLUMN: Drug dealers must be stopped, now

Elvis Masoga, Political analyst

While delivering his State of The Province Address (SOPA) early this year, Limpopo Premier, Chupu Mathabatha relayed a fierce warning to druglords and criminals: “We can no longer afford to watch a terrible episode of youth lives being destroyed by drugs. Our Operation Swara-Tsotsi, as led jointly by SAPS, is in full swing. We are waging a vicious war against drug abuse, drug peddlers and (drug) kingpins. We are going to spring-clean our streets and push out drug dealers from our villages and townships.”

Just like parasitic predatory vampires, drug dealers are suffocating the future of our country. There are prowling drug peddlers in all townships and suburbs. Along our streets, these monstrous drug dealers are plying their evil trade, targeting learners and youth. Many of our schools, colleges and universities have been infiltrated by these heartless drug peddlers. Drug dealers and druglords have cast an evil shadow on the horizons of our national sovereignty and most of those arrested originate from foreign countries. Curiously, these foreign-originated druglords are not consuming the drugs they are selling or selling drugs to their own children. Why are they selling drugs to South African youth only? There is a secret foreign agenda to turn the country’s youth into drug addicts. As a nation, we are now compelled to declare them as enemies of humanity. A high-level police operation is radically needed to mercilessly crush the monster of drug trafficking. I strongly appeal to police agencies and the nation at large to wage a vicious war against drug trafficking and druglords. We must never allow them to tear apart our national dreams, hopes and ideals. Their heartless agenda is to paralyse our national greatness and later hijack our country. We will never surrender our beloved country to the evil claws of druglords. Come hell or high water, we will win this battle against parasitic drug dealers. Our nation must rise up and take a militant stance against the monster of drug trafficking.
