Improve your life by working on the small things first

How often have you looked back and wondered in your mind; why did I do that? Relentless Youth with Nhlanhla

How often have you looked back and wondered in your mind; why did I do that?

Often times people find themselves regretting the actions or the results of momentary excitement. At the end of the day, they live with the regret over wasted money, time and chance.

There are several examples that one can cite, but I chose to use three: eating, smart phones/tablets and spending.

These are some of the time eaters without any form of return on investment except regrets. The sad thing is that people and food and people and their cell phone are almost permanently married. To divorce one from the other will take death of the other, it’s not easy.

So, before you take a second bite of that chocolate, or purchasing that pair of shoes, a watch or a dress, ask yourself this question: do I really need this?  It may sound somewhat absurd to do so, but if you answer honestly, you may save yourself the guilt trip which you are most likely going to travel alone, even if you had fun doing it with friends.

My wife recently wrote on a piece of paper, change happens by changing small things, one day at a time. I could not put it any other way. Before you can master the big decisions in life, try to deal with the small things in your life such as uncontrolled craving for chocolate or answering your phone every time it beeps. It will take a conscious decision to deal with the small foxes that spoil the vine, the small choices that destroy your life. The ancient book puts it this way; yet a little sleep, a little slumber. A little folding of hands to sleep, and so shall your poverty come as a thief. Watch those small frequent choices, they tend to thick hard walls around you.

There has to come a time where you start calculating every cent, every second and every step you take. If you change your direction in life, your life will also change. Great results in life are not achieved by accident, but by choice. So is great mess, it is not created by accident, but by choice of negligence. What you are piling up as minor will create a mountain of neglected rubble which will clog up your doors and passage to good health, good marriage and success.
