MEPS debater bags top award at World Scholars Cup competition
MEPS principal Sandy Pitsi said Shadi Leshilo demonstrated the qualities that define a leader which are resilience, teamwork and the ability to think critically under pressure.
POLOKWANE – Gr 8 learner Shadi Leshilo from MEPS last Saturday obtained a well-deserved spot in the SAPS Provincial Junior Commissioner Competition during the World Scholars Cup at Mitchell House.
This is an annual competition that draws young minds from across the province and its mission is to shape the leaders of tomorrow by challenging them today.
Shadi exemplified this mission throughout her journey, with the strong belief that debating is more than just words but an opportunity to transform society and mould future leaders.
“The school’s debating team provides me with the platform to explore my passion, and I also participate in debates. I found inspiration from her peers to be the best.”
Shadi demonstrated the qualities that define a leader which are resilience, teamwork and the ability to think critically under pressure, school principal Sandy Pitsi remarked.
“Youths are often underestimated, and it is heartening to witness young individuals like Shadi stepping into the spotlight as future leaders,” he said.
Learners participated in topics including the role of artificial intelligence simulations, historical fiction and essays. Shadi was awarded with the certificate as the SAPS Deputy Provincial Junior Commissioner and now prepares to compete at the nationals.
