Computer Olympiad success for PEPPS

PEPPS learners brought home 71 certificates, one gold by Khuliso Mbedzi, 12 silver and 58 bronze.

POLOKWANE – PEPPS learners recently excelled at the Computer Talent Olympiad.

Computer Talent, a prestigious national olympiad organised by the Ministry of Science and Technology in collaboration with Information Technology Professional South Africa (IITPSA), was a showcase of the remarkable computational thinking skills of young minds across the country.

This year, a record-breaking 174 schools participated which equalled 16 593 learners.

PEPPS learners brought home 71 certificates, one gold by Khuliso Mbedzi, 12 silver and 58 bronze.

At PEPPS, the olympiad was spearheaded by two college teachers, Believe Singano and Tebogo Malatji who are committed to promoting computer literacy at the school.

Through this olympiad, learners put their computational skills to the test while vying for national recognition. The competition not only emphasises the importance of computational thinking in various academic fields such as mathematics, science, IT and computer applications but also serves as a platform to identify and nurture talented students with these exceptional skills.

Singano stated that Computer Talent plays a pivotal role in fostering a new generation of tech-savvy individuals, who will undoubtedly shape the future of the nation’s digital landscape. “It is more than just a competition; it is a gateway for students to explore the boundless opportunities that the world of technology offers.”

He added that the success of the school in the Olympiad is testament to the school’s unwavering commitment to nurturing and honing the technical acumen of its students.

“It reflects the dedication of the teaching staff, the support from parents, and the passion that the students themselves hold for the world of computers and information technology.
