Naledi sets off on global classroom adventure in the UK

Mitchell House Gr 9 learner Naledi Shwatje heard about the Raise the Children International scholarship at school, immediately applied and was accepted.

POLOKWANE- Given the life-changing opportunity to develop her social leadership skills with some of the finest young minds around the world, Mitchell House Gr 9 learner Naledi Shwatje (15) travelled to join a global classroom at the Sevenoaks School in the United Kingdom (UK) for their summer programme on July 19.

She will return on August 2.

Born and bred in the small village of Ga-Rammetloana in Moletjie, Naledi understands the challenges of this type of background, and says this ignited her to want to work hard and ensure a better life for herself and her family one day.

Naledi, who also stays at the boarding house, heard about the Raise the Children International scholarship at school and immediately applied and was accepted.

The scholarship aims to empower rural South African children through quality education to become thriving servant-leaders poised to transform their communities and country.

They venture far to find young people with promise, they knock and open doors of opportunities for them.

Gr 9 learner Naledi Shwatje gets accepted for the Raise the Children International scholarship and will travel to the UK for the first time.

“This is my first time travelling to the UK and I’m super excited about the trip. I feel blessed because not everyone gets a chance to study abroad. I won’t take this for granted.”

During her time in the UK, Naledi will be doing a course that involves four modules: social leadership, critical thinking, digital skills and creativity.

She said she would like to study teaching when she goes to university one day.

“Teaching is a noble profession and I believe that teachers have the power to positively impact someone’s life. I want to be one of those teachers positively impacting the lives of their learners.”

Mitchell House College deputy head and pastoral carer Charmaine Mathibela, told Review that they are indeed proud of Naledi.

“We are confident that she will represent the school well and we can’t wait to hear all about her amazing experience.”
