PEMPS’ head boy knows how to prioritise

Kidus Sinteyahu said he has learnt that leadership qualities are nurtured over time and that these qualities will help him in the future.

POLOKWANE- Head boy at Pietersburg English Medium Primary School, Kidus Sinteyahu does not let his shyness prevent him from public speaking.

Finding out he was elected as head boy left him overwhelmed, but excited, he told Review.

“I didn’t think it would be me because I would have still been happy with just being a prefect.”

Candidates were chosen on qualities that included being positive, always encouraging others, being hardworking, obtaining good marks, punctuality and good attendance record. His responsibilities as the head boy are not limited to one thing and include organising activities, leading assemblies and maintaining order at the school.

Sinteyahu explained that his favourite part of being the head boy is the public speaking aspect of it. “Sometimes I am a bit shy but I like standing in front of people and delivering speeches. I just take a deep breath and speak,” he said.

He said the secret to finding the perfect balance is that he has to do everything that needs to be done immediately rather than later. Because his time is limited, he needs to be strict about time management.

“My motto in life is to build my dreams step by step. I have learnt that leadership qualities are nurtured over time and these will help me in future.”
