POLOKWANE – Last Monday, Jabez Christian Academy’s foundation phase learners set out to visit Adventures with Elephants situated just outside of Bela-Bela, to learn more about the largest land mammal, the elephant.
Most of the elephants in the conservation were taken in by the conservationists as “problem” elephants, and tamed for educational hands-on interactions.
Learners learned all about elephants from tail to trunk tip and everything in between, and experienced an elephant’s intelligence first-hand.
Every learner had the opportunity to interact with three elephants namely, Naledi, Mussina and Tjova. The young visitors were open to the learning experience and took full advantage of the opportunity of touching the elephants and taking part in all activities presented.
“Our learners are privileged to have had this experience, as so many children only read of wildlife in books and have never even seen an elephant in the wild,” said Gr 3 teacher Danlizelle Bekker.
“Teaching our learners about animals and conservation is important for the continued existence of animals that are in danger of extinction,” Gr 2 teacher Danell Booysen added.
“Educating our learners about elephants ties in with the command that was given to man in Genesis 1:28 which declares that we should rule over every living creature,” Jabez Principal Dr Elana Erasmus said.
