Gr 6’s encouraged to apply for Allan Gray Orbis Foundation scholarship

Gr 6 learners who demonstrate an interest in becoming an entrepreneur or business owner are eligible for the programme as it offers them the best entrepreneurial opportunities to build the life they want for themselves.

POLOKWANE – The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation’s prestigious High School Scholarship programme is open for applications and they are calling on all Gr 6 learners across the country to apply as soon as possible.

Acting CEO Dr Nontobeko Mabizela told the Polokwane Review that this prestigious scholarship focuses on empowering the next generation of change-makers and the programme is dedicated to ensuring that all scholars, regardless of background, can get access to a good education and entrepreneurial programmes.

Learners will receive placement at one of South Africa’s prestigious high schools, tuition, board and textbooks among other things.

Mabizela emphasised that the programme is a life-changing opportunity. “The scholarship aims to produce confident scholars with entrepreneurial thinking, unlocked potential, leadership qualities, a desire to create value and solve our countries most pressing social and economic issues,” she said.

Mabizela added that Gr 6 learners must demonstrate an interest in becoming an entrepreneur or business owner to be eligible for the programme as it offers them the best entrepreneurial opportunities to build the life they want for themselves through quality education.

Some of the main elements covered by the scholarship include tuition, uniform and boarding; stationery, textbooks, toiletries, causal clothing; a monthly allowance; support for extra murals; workshops, speaker events and seminars; regional entrepreneurial experience sessions; annual entrepreneurial conference; online learning conferences as well as a programme officer which is a one-on-one courageous conversation mentorship.

When applying for the scholarship, the following criteria strictly applies:

• Applicant must be in Gr 6 this year (2023) to apply.
• The scholarship opportunity is an entrepreneurial programme not only for financial support at high school.
• Applicants must show interest in becoming an entrepreneur or business owner.
• Applicant cannot be older than 12 years of age and not younger than 11in Gr 6 (2023).
• A clear demonstrate financial need of a household income that must not exceed a monthly gross income of R20 000, including business revenue.
• Applicant must obtain a minimum of 70 % for English and Mathematics in Gr 5 from a December report and Gr 6 June report.
• Applicant must obtain a minimum overall average of 70% average for all subjects in Gr 5 from a December report and Gr 6 June report.
• Indication of potential entrepreneurial flair, passion and belief in the future of our country.
• Applicant must be a South African citizen (one parent must be a South African citizen at least).

• Post application form to Allan Gray Orbis Foundation (Freepost no: CB 11349 Kloof Street, 8008) then register your mail and track it to avoid the application form from being lost.
• Hand deliver to 46 Hof Street, Oranjezicht in Cape Town or first floor of the Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr building (1 Protea Place; Corner Fredman Drive and Protea Place in Sandton).
