PEMPS parents and learners open their hearts to the less fortunate

PEMPS' deputy principal Mabine Mametja said the school has been hosting donation drives like this from as far back as 2004.

POLOKWANE -Pietersburg English Medium Primary School (PEMPS) showed the spirit of ubuntu when they recently donated clothes, blankets and non-perishable foodstuffs to the less fortunate.

These items were collected over a period of two weeks before being handed over to Sent2Serve Ministries.

They also hosted a fundraiser, and managed to collect a donation of R1 000 which was handed over to the ministry at the school on June 6.

The deputy principal, Mabine Mametja explained that the school has been running the initiative from as far back as 2004.

In light of the recent Child Protection Week, they thought of making a contribution to protect children, he added.

“We are glad that the parents heard our call because without them, children have nothing.

“It is the parents who donate through their children.

When some people say that they don’t have anything to wear, they mean it literally. We know that somebody will appreciate this,” he said.

The school has been working with Sent2Serve Ministries since 2019.

Melville Botha from the ministries said that they are an organisation working in and around Polokwane, where 220 families currently benefit from their feeding scheme every month.

“The food parcels we give these families are very small and are only meant to assist them, not get them through the month.

“We also do a lot of work in Venda, and the food and clothing donated by Pemps will go to the needy there. We are very grateful for this because God sent us to assist people.

The ministry is called Sent2Serve but we cannot do it on our own.

“We need the community to assist us.”
