Noordskool learners put green, eco-friendly hands to use

Polokwane Municipality and environment teacher Mahlatse Molaudzi says he is happy that the school is taking part in growing the environment.

POLOKWANE- Laerskool Pietersburg Noord (Noordskool) learners recently did their bit to maintain a green, eco-friendly environment on their premises by planting trees at the school on 9 May.

“The tree-planting forms part of the Go-Green project that the school implemented, to create and leave a greener planet for the next generation. We’re all about doing things differently and therefore we have decided to start a go-green tradition where our learners and staff will be planting trees every year from now on, in hopes to save the planet,” principal Greg Schoeman said.

With the help from the Polokwane Municipality and environment teachers Walter Matumba and Mahlatse Molaudzi who brought trees for the school to plant, Gr 1 to 7 learners gathered during assembly to learn more about the project.

“Trees play an important part in our lives as they supply oxygen and are good for the birds and their nests and beautify the environment,” Matumba remarked.

Mahlatse added that being surrounded by trees is something to look forward to.

“Trees are beautiful and it is lovely to have greenery all around you, just to admire and take in nature. I’m very fond of the project and happy that the school is taking part in growing the environment.”

Prefects Maite Mashanya and Ontatile Malatsi recited the importance of trees in a poem as part of the proceedings.
