PEPPS tells the story of Joseph’s Technicolour Dreamcoat

Play director Katlego Mpepele says their aim was to expose learners to the real world experience of performing arts over a series of nights.

POLOKWANE- PEPPS recently hosted their annual four-day play from April 18-21.

“We wanted to try something different this year, so we challenged our learners and exposed them to the real-world experience of performing shows over a series of nights,” said the play director, Katlego Mpepele.

The play is based on the biblical story of Joseph and his 11 brothers, and the cast studied the play through lengthy vocal training sessions through to choreography.

PEPPS culture and production presented their four-day play.

Mpepele explained that when he became head of culture and production, he started to brainstorm shows based on the current talent they have in Prep School.

“I wanted something challenging, that was also classic, something that could be nostalgic to our parents and grandparents but also new to our learners. I decided on Andrew Lloyd Webers’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor DreamCoat as the perfect bridge,” said Mpepele.

The play came to life after six months of rehearsals and two months of securing the production rights.

Mpepele is confident that the actors gained a mountain of new skills and techniques that will allow them to grow and utilise their talent in pursuing their interests and passion in the dramatic arts.

All of this started as one man’s idea and with the support of head, Amanda Korff, it became a reality, added Mpepele.

He thanked Ntiyiso Dlamini, Lauren Malope, Monique Spencer and Bonay van der Schyff for forming part of the team that assisted in visualising and bringing the musical to life.
