Ivy Park’s Itumeleng hopes to impress soccer scouts

Rising soccer star Itumeleng Mathekga will represent the province and his school, Laerskool IvyPark, at the Bill Stewart tournament in Pretoria in June.

POLOKWANE – Talented young soccer star and captain of the Laerskool Ivypark soccer team, Itumeleng Mathekga has been chosen to represent the school and the province at the Bill Stewart Primary Schools Football Association tournament to be held in Pretoria in June.

Itumeleng was chosen at the trials of the provincial leg of the tournament in March.

He was included for Limpopo Primary Schools Football and will compete with top soccer players from various provinces at the national event.

The Bill Stewart tournament is one of South Africa’s oldest talent identification programmes and has produced top players who are plying their trade in top Premier Soccer League teams.

“I am very happy to have been chosen for the event. This is an opportunity for me to showcase my talent and hopefully, grab the attention of football scouts from Premier Soccer League clubs. This is just the beginning of a good soccer career and I want to make good use of the opportunity.”

Willem Opperman, the principal of Laerskool Ivypark wished Itumeleng well at the national soccer showpiece.

“He is one of the many talented soccer players we have in the school. He is also the captain of our u/13 soccer team and he has been doing well in our matches. We wish him well where he is going to raise the flag of the school high at the event.”
