Prime time podcast for Noorderland learners

The 'Prime Time Friends Podcast' hosted by Gr 10-12 learners at Noordeland High School aims to motivate, entertain and talk about controversial issues that affect teenagers in South Africa.

POLOKWANE – For the development of thinking in different ways of thinking Noorderland High School learners formed a podcast group called ‘Prime Time Friends Podcast’.

Podcast team leader and founder Khutjo Mamabolo, Gr 12, said that the point of the podcast is to motivate, entertain and talk about controversial issues that affect teenagers in South Africa.

“This podcast is a platform for teens by teens where we talk about issues and topics that affect us. We touch on topics that we all experience so that we can all relate,” Khutjo said.

Prime Time Friends Podcast team leader and founder Khutjo Mamabolo (Gr 12) wants to empower teens.

Within the podcast team, Khutjo is joined by Gr 10 and 12 learners Tshegofatso Lekgothoane, Lebogang Mmatloa, Phenyo Mahlase, Reabetswe Sefala, Hope Phakwago, Nkamogeleng Mashele, Theto Letsoalo, Kethabetswe Motau, Muano Maduwa.

“Prime Time Friends Podcast symbolises that there is unity and trust within the group. We support one another as family and we’re always there for each other.”

The crew has been interviewed on three local radio stations which are Thobela FM, Capricorn FM and One Nation FM where they elaborated and touched on how it was formed.

“Even when we’ve completed high school, with the podcast we aim to grow into a nationwide network which promotes young ideas and the spirit of Ubuntu in our communities,” Hope said.

In regards to challenges within the group, Khutjo explained that having to keep up to date with their school work can be a bit challenging, but they manage to find time to give both equal attention.

“Since the group consists of learners spearheading this platform it can become hard at times to keep up with the growth of the platform and our school books, and one way in which we solve the challenge is to record multiple episodes at a time, edit and schedule the episodes which come out once a week on Thursdays at 15:00. This allows us to focus on our books while also growing the platform at the same time,” he concluded.
