NCA’s choir formed on the right note

Fifty eager learners will form part of Northview Christian Academy's new choir under the guidance of Unah Mabesere.

POLOKWANE – What started out as a fun activity soon changed into a more serious cultural item on the school calendar.

Northview Christian Academy decided to form a choir during their cultural period and asked teacher Unah Mabesere to set it up.

“I am part of our choir at church and therefore the management decided I should be in charge. At the start of the third term we had auditions, but all for the fun of it and nothing serious.”

Soon there were 50 willing learners that wanted to be part of the choir and Unah asked Joharina Briers and Jubilie Matiyenga to assist.

The choir practices once a week singing gospel songs but will soon sing other genres too. Their first appearance will be at the school’s merit evening.

Well-known choir conductor Johan Bester visited the school earlier this year to assist the setting up of the choir.

Johan is the founder and director of Karisma Performing Arts and has been involved with choirs for more than 30 years.

He will visit NCA and other schools in the city in the new year to guide the choir conductors and learners into rounded choirs that stand a chance to win competitions.

“We are very privileged that he chose us for this project, especially since our choir started out as just a fun project. We look forward to working with him,” concluded Unah.
