Valuable lessons with a traditional twist for New Horizon learners

With a R10 entrance fee to New Horizon's Heritage Day celebration, learners got to understand the financial aspect of being a responsible family member.

POLOKWANE – Learners at New Horizon School celebrated Heritage Month in style on September 28, infusing traditional patterns with casual clothing and various forms of dance.

With the aim of raising money, the school invited parents to watch as they showed off their best moves on stage. Each person paid R10 entry fee.

The aim was for the learners to understand the financial aspect of being a responsible family member.

This was through learners closely watching as their parents bought them food items, paid for their face paintings and photo shoots.

Principal, Robinson Phooko says they managed to raise R45 400, slightly missing their target of R50 000.

Individuals and organisations pledged their support in cash, food and other helpful items such as tents. He says the money will be used to subsidise hostel fees and maintain some school equipment.

“A portion of the money will assist in the repair of our industrial laundry machines which are expensive to maintain, installing software for learners’ laptops in the computer lab to enhance their technological learning and to buy paint to refurbish classrooms,” he added.

The school says it appreciated all the donations.
