POLOKWANE – The top physical sciences teacher in the province for 2021 has joined Capricorn High School as the departmental head for the science department.

Daphney Masutha has been a teacher since 2016 but her love for physical sciences stems all the way back to her high school days.

“I have loved teaching since my days in high school where we would have study groups on Saturdays and I would teach physics,” she said.

It was a no brainer when she went to university, she decided to major in physical science and life sciences.

She went on to excel in the subject and has received a number of awards, one of those being a national teaching award.

“In 2021, I obtained first place for excellence for teaching physical science in Limpopo. I was among the top nine best physical science teachers in the country and thereafter was promoted to departmental head this year,” she said

Stepping into her new role, she said she is learning new things as she comes from a small school. Apart from her role as departmental head, she teaches Gr 10 and 12.

Masutha added that she is fortunate to be leading a team that is respectful and always willing to learn.

“They were very welcoming and have been very helpful. We work well together as a team,” she said.

She added that she rarely ever takes time off because she is an indoors person and often ends up doing work even when she is supposed to be resting.

“When I do take time off, you will find me on social media,” she laughed.
