Vice captain Palesa Tebele said long hours, dedication, strategies set out by coaches and support from parents was valuable to their success.

POLOKWANE – The captain of Technical High School Tom Naudé’s u/16 netball team, Malwande Butelezi, said it was hard work and communication that led to a succesful Top Schools Tournament in Gauteng.

The team ranked sixth at the tournament and the school said they are exceptionally proud.

Butelezi told the Polokwane Review that Hoërskool Menlopark and Hoërskool Monument were their biggest competition.

“These games came with a lot of pressure for us. The team played their hearts out against Monument and applied pressure from the get-go which resulted in a win. We also played well against Menlopark. We worked together and communicated with each other the entire game. It was great even though we lost.”

Vice captain Palesa Tebele said she learned that long hours, dedication, strategies set out by coaches and support from parents is valuable.

“We practiced for long hours and placing sixth really motivates us to work even harder. The games were challenging, with strong opponents. but I am proud of our success. I learned you can achieve anything you put your mind to,” she said.

One of the players, Abubakar Kubura, said it feels astonishing to achieve ranking sixth.

“I am proud of my team and the effort they put into making our dreams come true. It literally took all our emotional, mental and physical energy but is absolutely wonderful.”
