POLOKWANE – The provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the arrest of two men and the recovery of drugs, firearms and ammunition.

Hadebe’s comments follow the arrest of two men in Westenburg and Seshego for dealing and possession of drugs on Saturday in addition to possession of an unlicensed firearm with ammunition.

A 50-year-old man was arrested by members of the Provincial Organised Crime Unit at his house in Westenburg where the police found 30 Mandrax tablets worth R3000.

Meanwhile, a 65-year-old man was arrested for possession and dealing in drugs in Chebeng.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says the suspect was found in possession of 300 mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R30 000.

“The suspect was also found in possession of an unlicensed firearm with ammunition. Further investigations will be conducted to ascertain if the firearm is not linked to other crimes,” he said.

Ledwaba said the suspects will appear before respective magistrate’s courts soon pending further investigation.
