MOKOPANE – Anne Coertze (79), a cherished mother, grandmother to 10 and great-grandmother of six, is facing a difficult health battle.
She was recently diagnosed with basal skin cancer on her forehead, which requires urgent surgery to prevent further spread. In addition, she has adenocarcinoma, an aggressive malignancy in her gland, which doctors have advised must be removed immediately as it spreads rapidly and destroys surrounding tissue.
Her granddaughter, Tanya de Mendonca, explains the urgency: “This gland needs to be removed as soon as possible because it spreads fast and eats away at the tissue on her face.”
Unfortunately, Grandma Anne is not a member of a medical aid, and despite all of her children contributing what they can, the family is struggling to meet the financial demands of her treatment.
“We managed to get the diagnoses and the necessary tests, but it’s hard. We know many others are also facing challenges, but we love her dearly, and it’s heartbreaking to see her suffer,” Tanya shared.
In a heartfelt plea, the family has set up a BackaBuddy account and is asking the community for support.
“Whether it’s R10 or R1 000, every donation is a blessing, and we will be eternally grateful,” Tanya added.
