POLOKWANE – A 52-year-old former Police Sergeant, previously stationed at the Lebowakgomo Police Station, is scheduled to appear in court today, October 28, alongside two accomplices: a 41-year-old Police Constable and a 42-year-old Police Reservist.
They face corruption charges, defeating the ends of justice, and business burglary.
The arrests occurred on Sunday, October 27, as part of an ongoing investigation by the Anti-Corruption Unit in Limpopo, which connected the officers to a series of illegal activities.
The former Sergeant was dismissed from the Police Service after being implicated in incidents where he and his accomplices allegedly extorted R1,500 from a man accused of possessing cannabis.
The latest charges are related to a burglary case in which the former Sergeant and the Police Reservist allegedly broke into a shop owned by a foreign national in May 2023, within the Moletlane policing precinct.
The trio reportedly stole cash and cigarettes without registering the evidence or opening a case.
The three suspects will appear before the Lebowakgomo Magistrate’s Court on Monday, October 28, 2024.
The provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, welcomed the arrest, stating, “This serves as a strong message that those who undermine the integrity of the service and act with impunity will be rooted out without fear or favour.”
