Police arrest 30-year-old man for fatal stabbing, the suspect now faces murder charge at Mankweng Magistrate court.

POLOKWANE – Capricorn District SAPS have arrested a 30-year-old male in connection with the murder of another 35-year-old man in the early hours of Monday (October 14) in Mokwasele village.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says that police received a complaint about two men fighting and stabbing each other. The attacker is believed to be the current boyfriend of the victim’s ex-girlfriend.

“Upon arrival they found the victim lying on the ground with multiple stab wounds on the upper body.”

The members of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were summoned to the scene but declared the victim dead on their arrival at the scene.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was at his residence when the suspect approached him and started to argue with him over his ex-girlfriend.

The two men then began to fight when the perpetrator took out a sharp object, stabbed the victim and fled the scene on foot.

“An immediate manhunt for the suspect was launched and he was subsequently apprehended the same day while trying to flee from his residence in Sebayeng,” says Ledwaba.

“The suspect is currently admitted at a hospital under police guard after he sustained injuries during the fight with the deceased.”

The suspect will appear at Mankweng Magistrate court in absentia facing a charge of murder today (Wednesday, October 16).

Police investigations are continuing.
