Vehicle intended for border smuggling intercepted on N1

A vehicle stolen in Garsfontein in October was intercepted on the N1 North between the Kranskop and Nyl toll plazas on Sunday.

LIMPOPO – A 54-year-old man will appear before the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court today on a charge of possession of a suspected hijacked motor vehicle following his arrest on Sunday (October 13).

According to the Limpopo police, the suspect was arrested by Waterberg and the Capricorn Flying Squad members on the N1 North between the Kranskop and Nyl toll plazas.

“Members tactically approached the vehicle after spotting it on the highway. Preliminary investigations established that the vehicle was reported stolen in Garsfontein in Gauteng during October,” police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said.

He added that the vehicle was intended to be smuggled through the Beitbridge Border Post to Zimbabwe.

“The suspect was immediately placed under arrest. Police investigations into the matter continue,” he said.

The provincial police commissioner Limpopo Lieutenant, General Thembi Hadebe commended the members involved for the arrest and swift recovery of the stolen vehicle.
