Limpopo man kills partner, takes own life

A Lenyenye couple die in a domestic violence incident when police confront a man for shooting his wife, then turning the gun on himself.

POLOKWANE – On Monday afternoon (October 7), a man allegedly shot his 45-year-old partner in KwaZulu-Natal, then took his own life in Limpopo after being cornered by police.

The couple, originally from Lenyenye outside Tzaneen, was driving back to Limpopo together when the fatal shooting occurred.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says that according to reports, the man shot his partner at Pongola in KwaZulu-Natal, removed her body from the vehicle, and continued the drive to Limpopo.

“Police were alerted, and a massive search operation was launched. Members of the Limpopo Highway Patrol spotted the vehicle and attempted to apprehend the suspect. However, he refused to surrender and took his own life,” says Ledwaba.

Provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, condemns the incident, highlighting the devastating impact of domestic violence on communities.

“We are saddened by this incident because women are continuously being victimized and even killed by their partners,” she said.

Hadebe urges community members to seek professional assistance when facing relationship challenges.
