POLOKWANE – A trio of men, ages 25 to 33, appeared before the Thabamoopo Magistrate’s Court yesterday on charges of possession and dealing in drugs.
The suspects were arrested in Makotse Village, Lebowakgomo during an operation by the Limpopo Provincial Organised Crime Unit, the Limpopo Provincial Flying Squad, and the Lebowakgomo SAPS on Sunday (September 29) that also resulted in the seizure of drugs worth around R4m.
Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the operation formed part of an ongoing crackdown aimed at dismantling drug networks in the province.
“The police discovered a significant quantity of mandrax at the suspect’s residence and located a nearby drug manufacturing lab containing various chemicals and substances used in drug production. The SAPS Forensic Science Laboratory has been alerted to investigate the drug lab further. Security measures will remain in place at the site until the investigation is completed,” Ledwaba said.
The acting provincial police commissioner, Major General Samuel Manala commended the collaborative efforts of the various law enforcement agencies involved in this operation.
“The suspects will next appear on October 7 for a formal bail application,” Ledwaba said.
