Malamulele community save woman from sexual assault

Several members of the Malamulele community ran to the assistance of a woman and rescued her from a potential sexual assault.

LIMPOPO – A 40-year-old man will appear before the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court today on a charge of attempted rape following his arrest over the weekend.

According to the Limpopo police, the man’s arrest came after a courageous act by the community who intervened and rescued the victim.

“At around 19:30 on Saturday night (September 28), witnesses heard a woman hysterically screaming for help in the bushes near Malamulele Extension B. Realising the severity of the situation, several individuals ran to the scene and provided immediate assistance to the victim and rescued her from the attempted sexual assault,” police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said.

Police officers who were performing patrol duty reacted swiftly and the suspect was arrested with assistance of the community after he attempted to evade arrest.

“Thanks to the swift response of these community members, the victim was safely rescued and the suspect apprehended by the police. This incident highlights the importance of community involvement in crime fighting initiatives,” the acting provincial police commissioner Major General Samuel Manala said.

Manala added that they are grateful for the bravery shown by those who stepped in to protect one of their own.
