Noorderland learner with big basketball dreams

Tshegofatso Khoza, a Gr 10 learner from Noorderland, makes a name for himself in basketball, reaching semifinals in national championship qualifiers.

POLOKWANE – Tshegofatso Khoza, a Gr 10 learner from Noorderland High School, has gained recognition for his basketball skills while competing with the Super Elite Basketball Club in the 2024 national club championship qualifiers.

The tournament, organised by Basketball South Africa, serves as a national qualifying event, with the champions advancing to the continental and international levels.

Though Khoza’s team did not win, reaching the semifinals was a significant achievement.

As the youngest player in the tournament, Khoza reflected on the experience: “The coach told me I have potential; I just need to believe in myself more”.

Khoza, who started playing basketball at the age of six, was inspired by his father and brother, who both participated in basketball.

“It’s a family sport. I watched my father and brother play, and my father taught me how to play. I used to go with them to practice at the Seshego Basketball courts,” he explained.

His love for basketball stems from the discipline it instils and how it keeps him focused and away from negative influences. Khoza aspires to play in the Basketball Africa League, an international tournament. “I want to make my father proud,” he concluded.
