Collins Chabane Muni launches local Aids council

Mayor Maluleke vows to combat HIV/Aids through collaborative efforts, promoting preventative measures and service delivery.

LIMPOPO – During the recent launch of the Local Aids Council at the Malamulele Community Hall, Collins Chabane Mayor Gezane Shadrack Maluleke said they are committed to improving service delivery.

He said the municipality expects increased efforts from everyone involved in fighting HIV/aids, and related health issues.

In his address, Maluleke outlined the municipality’s plan to enhance awareness campaigns and health promotion activities, with a strong focus on creating a unified response to combat HIV and sexually transmitted illnesses.

“We have made significant progress in establishing local Aids councils. These structures are crucial in ensuring that the management and decision-making for HIV/aids and TB programmes are closer to the communities affected. This newly appointed council is expected to continue with this vision,” said Maluleke.

He stressed the importance of public and private partnerships in addressing the spread of sexually transmitted infections, particularly among the youth, and reaffirmed government’s commitment to preventative programmes including abstinence, being faithful to one partner, and the promotion of condom use (ABC).

He also mentioned initiatives including male circumcision, awareness campaigns, and the distribution of condoms as essential tools in preventing HIV transmission.

“We are here to serve our people, and I appeal to all of you to make a lasting impact throughout this term,” he added, calling for dedicated efforts to provide services to the community.

The event was attended by various stakeholders, including the Department of Health, the Pastors Forum, the Traditional Leaders Forum and traditional healers.

The mayor was joined by members of the executive committee and local ward councillors.
