New GBV office opens at the Mokopane Police Station

The ♥️ My Mokopane movement, in collaboration with residents, businesses, and Mokopane Police Station staff, undertook the refurbishment of the office.

MOKOPANE – A new Gender-Based Violence (GBV) office was officially opened at the Mokopane Police Station on September 17.

This newly dedicated space is designed to offer comfort and security for victims of abuse during their interactions with investigating officers.

The creation of the GBV office was driven by community efforts.

Last Saturday, the ♥️ My Mokopane movement, in collaboration with residents, businesses, and Mokopane Police Station staff, undertook the refurbishment of the office.

The space was revitalised with a fresh coat of paint, new vinyl flooring, repaired doors, and updated electrical work. Donations from the community provided additional furnishings and decorations, creating a welcoming environment.

Beyond the office refurbishment, the ♥️ My Mokopane team also undertook a comprehensive cleanup of the station’s garden, roof, gutters, and lapa, significantly enhancing the overall appearance of the station.

Col Lesiba Mabote, station commander at the Mokopane Police Station, expressed his gratitude: “On behalf of Mokopane SAPS management, we want to thank the ♥️ My Mokopane cleaning project for donating paint and furniture and for ensuring that our GBV office looks welcoming. This office will serve as a dedicated space for victims of GBV, offering them a safe and supportive environment. We truly appreciate everyone who contributed to this project.”

Richard Marshall, representing the ♥️ My Mokopane movement, thanked the police for their vital work, noting that the movement’s contributions were a small token of appreciation for the essential services provided by the police.

Businesses that supported the ♥️ My Mokopane movement include Shonalanga Milling, E.H. Hassim, Doen-dit-met-Rian, Lonely Oak Hotel, Prinsloo Bouers, RR&C Kitchens and Cupboards, and Mokopane Destiny Academy.
