Foreigner nabbed near Polokwane during anti-smuggling operation

Preliminary police investigations revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen in Alberton in Gauteng on Wednesday and was destined for smuggling.

POLOKWANE – A Zimbabwean national will appear on several charges before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court tomorrow following his arrest in the early hours of Friday morning (September 20).

The suspect (33) was found driving a white Toyota SUV on the N1 bypass and was arrested by the Limpopo Anti-Smuggling task team.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the team received a tip-off about the vehicle that was destined to be smuggled out of the country.

“Preliminary police investigations revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen in Alberton in Gauteng on Wednesday (September 18). The suspect will face charges of possessing a presumed stolen motor vehicle, contravention of the  Immigration Act 13 of 2002 and operating a motor vehicle without valid driver’s license,” he said.
