Transport spokesperson Tidimalo Chuene says the increase in traffic is due to the school holidays as well as those travelling for religious gatherings and tourism.

As 12:21, around 1308 vehicles were passing through the Carousel toll plaza per hour, according to Bakwena Platinum, with volumes expected to increase as the afternoon progresses.

The N1/N4 operator says they are expecting busy conditions between 12:00 and 20:00 on the N1 North.

“To ensure a smooth journey, law enforcement officers are strategically deployed along major routes, including the N1, N11, R101, R81, R71, R579, R37, R36, R40, R528, R574, R516, R521, D4040, D19, D4, R524, and R523, to manage traffic flow,” she said.
